
Here’s a recipe for simple caramel for those who are either limited in resources, can’t cook, or both. All you need is a can of sweetened condensed milk and a pot deep enough to cover it in water.

Remove the plastic lid (if you have one). DO NOT open the can. Submerge the entire can in a pot of water. Please note the warning on the label: “Sweetened Condensed Milk is not to be used as a breast-milk substitute.”

Boil the can for two hours, adding water occasionally, making sure that the can is always submerged.
