Thousands gather for the Dragon Boat Festival held in Zigui, an hour away from Yichang.

Here the bicycle club is in the shorter of the two different length dragon boats. The short boat holds 10 rowers, one drummer and a helmsman. The longer boat holds 20 rowers.

The drummers pound away, urging the rowers on.

Shorel signing autographs for some children. They were surprised he could write his own Chinese name.

Shorel being interviewed by a local newspaper reporter…and being assisted by a number of guys from the bicycle club.

This team from the Philippines won the overall competition. Almost all were at least 6′ tall and had arms as thick as tree trunks. I actually think they were off-duty Filipino Marines. They were big boys.
