The other day we heard that the Yichang International Tourism Festival would be holding a parade. So we went to check out the action. One of the mascots was a the Yangtze River Sturgeon.

There were several marching bands. Sandra gave them a thumbs up.

There were also several Chinese drumming troupes, of several hundred people, each person beating their own little drum.

The mascots for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing are the five “Friendlies”. Four of them are animals found in China, the fifth is a red Olympic Flame.

Guess which Friendly this is? (Is “Friendlies” an Adjective-made-into-a-noun? Chinglish?)

It isn’t called the International Tourism Festival for nothing. Representatives from about a dozen different countries took part, including France, Monaco, Belgium, Holland, Japan, Russia & Cuba (hmmm…), Andorra, Nepal and India. France dressed as babies for some reason.

One of the floats in the parade represented the CheXi scenic area near Yichang.

These foreign students from Wuhan, were among the more interesting of the ‘floats’ on public display. We especially enjoyed the impromptu ‘mosh-pit’ dancing demonstration.

These guys were dressed as walking haystacks carrying torches. I ask you: what is this supposed to represent?
