As we were riding the bus home, a sweet “big sister” crawled up on Shorel’s lap and played with Schäfer the entire way home. Sometimes, we encounter parents who scold their kids until they “practice some English” at us. Hey, if you were paying as much as they are for Saturday school and summer intensive English classes, you’d want to see your money at work too.
But this “big sister” wasn’t coerced at all. She climbed up on her own initiative. Her purse was a bottomless pit when it came to toys and, of course, she could sing songs on demand. Her questions included: Why does little brother have so much saliva? Why are little brother’s eyes blue? Where is little brother’s Grandma? Her eyes popped out when we shared his grandparents were in America.
We learned that big sister lives just two buildings over and when she has time we’re invited over to play. Her 5-year-old schedule is quite full with kindergarten 8-6pm daily plus Saturday & Sunday English classes.

Wow – kindergardeners are there more than we Americans have to work. I guess we really can’t complain, can we?
Off the subject, but what is this hair-do/beard in the left of the picture!? I laughed out loud thinking about this little girl hopping up on S’s lap for the ride home.
I’m going to guess that the fuzz in the left of the photo is teased hair. 80′s looks are quite fashionable here.
