Today, the women in China got a break. It’s International Women’s Day.
Some tourist spots offered free entrance for those of the female gender. Campus co-eds got two milks for the price of one. Clothes were on sale. Flowers were being bought.
My International Women’s Day celebration started with breakfast. Our foreign teachers popped in for some banana sour cream bread.
Schäfer and I had a nice morning playing together before his morning nap. Honestly, I was looking forward to his 1.5 hours of morning slumber. Normally, in the mornings I am in class during his nap, but on Saturdays this is prime free time for me.
Unfortunately, his nap was only 30 minutes because a daughter about 10 buildings down was getting married. Firecrackers go off when the bride leaves her house. pow. pow. pow. Free time Nap time is officially over.

After lunch, we headed to our favorite quiet place: the playground at our local kindergarten. I don’t know why, but for the past few Saturdays the gate has been open so Schäfer and I have been able to play on their awesome playground.

On our way home, we ran into these children. Don’t they look like something you’d see at Disneyland? I thought maybe they were going for pictures, but I learned that they were the “flower children” at a nearby wedding. I guess a lot of women decided to get married on Women’s Day. Very auspicious indeed.

After a nice, refreshing afternoon nap, Schäfer had a play date with some little friends. I tried to get a better photo, but Schäfer refused to be still.

We also stopped by the local flower shop to see how her day had been.

I find that glitter on flowers = glitter all over the house.
Happy International Women’s Day!

Awesome playground–I’m so glad the gate was open! Sorry about the fireworks though–boy do things like that make me crazy. “Free time” is so difficult to find.
P.S. Love the static electricity pics!
wow…and it’s clean too!! Every so often we find super great places to play…but they look like a whole year’s worth of dust has settled on the slides and handrails. fun times to play outside!
I wondered about the girl on the left with “Lipscomb” written on her shirt. That’s my maiden name. I know there is a Lipscomb University in Tennessee. Is that where she went to school or do you know?
Just wondering???
Yes, that is where she went to school.
I love that you caught the static hair. That was always the highlight of the park in Dallas for the boys…static hair and giving me static shocks.
