We’re still pondering Little Sister’s name.
Hubs and I concluded today that we did not go about picking Schäfer’s name based on the letter “S”. We read every name in the baby book – ok 2 baby books: 35,000 Baby Names and 10,000 Baby Names (as if they weren’t already included in the 35,000)…anyway…
We both made separate lists to see what types of names we liked. Since we didn’t know if Schäfer was a boy or girl, we each made a boy list and a girl list. In the end, we could only agree on a boy name. (Not sure what we would have done if we’d had a girl.)
Today, I pulled out the list of names we individually created for a girl back in 2006. Here are some of the names that received a VETO.
Hubs liked but I vetoed:
Galiana, Giselle, Ilsa, Jianna, Bronwen, Grandison, Grysillah, Viridis, Wilda, Yseult, Zimra
I liked but Hubs vetoed:
Elizabeth Jane, Lavender, Leah, Libby, Lilly Beth, Willow
See…we’ve got a long way to go.

Nanamaw wants to put in her two cents worth, which can be graciously vetoed by either of you:
Sanja, German, Wisdom
Sanna, Lily Flower, Scandinavian
Sanne, Lily, German
Shan, Coral, Chinese
…then you will just have to argue over the middle name.
I didn’t know picking a name was so hard, with Scucchi I had to stick with names ending in vowels and nothing fancy…I wanted to name Gloria “Jennifer” but didn’t like the way it sounded with Scucchi. I wanted your name to be Alexandria, but knew it was too long. I decided on Gloria for two friends, and Sandra for Aunt Sandy and Sandra Mazzanti the wife of your dad’s friend from high school. I don’t know how hard it was to choose my name, Daddy always said I’d wanda why I wasn’t a boy for the Wanda part when I’d ask where he got the name.
Well, I hope Sandra gets to name the new baby! Although I am partial to names with Beth in them….
I think those are all very interesting and pretty names!!! Very unique! You will pick the perfect name for her! I hope she comes quickly!
I think a floral (or fauna) name — like Lavender, Lily, Willow or anything Shorel didn’t veto — would be awesome. Then you could solve your plant growing issue. You would know that you helped *grow* an amazing little girl!
Thank you for understanding the depth of my plant growing issue! Lately I’ve been thinking that we just need to see her! Then, we’ll have no problems agreeing on a name!
I always thought you would have a little girl named Lillian (Lily for short) and an orange tabby cat named Mr. Dingra. Schafer was the surprise so far… Naming is fun. What about Liesl if you’re going for a German bent?
