Thanks to Aunt Katrina who gave us gift certificates for Christmas and one night of free babysitting, we slipped away for Date #2. Our first gift certificate was to Noodle Express. Now, we pretty much promised ourselves that we would not eat any kind of Asian food while in America and we have indeed kept our word. Even though their specialty is “Asian bowls” Hubs ordered a wrap, I ordered a salad and we split the fresh green beans. Yum!

Then, we slipped into JoAnn’s fabrics (I know – not Hubs idea of a great date!) to find our family swatch for the 100 blessing quilts. I’ve looked at hundreds of fabrics before, but I couldn’t decide.

Hubs decided this represents our family. I love it because it’s so Starry Night by Van Gough.
Then, we were off to the movies thanks to another gift certificate. We saw Will Smith’s new movie: 7 Pounds which left me feeling a little like this:

Let’s just say that even when the credits were rolling, I had to externally process the movie just to make sure I got it.
so he…
but what about…
then he…
they were…
that was..
is that why…
oh.
But the night was still young! Thanks to gift certificates, we went to Wal-Mart and did our final “China Shop”. China Shop is what I call the list of items we wrote back in August while sitting in our apartment in China. You know important things like a garlic press, a water proof mattress pad for Schäfer’s big boy bed, etc.
There were a few tough decisions: I wanted to get bed sheets for a twin bed, but Hubs thought we could have then made in China. True, we could find them locally, but could we find them locally for 6 bucks? I don’t think so!
Thank you Katrina the gift certificates and for babysitting!

Did you like 7 pounds? We went and watched it…one of the few movies we have seen lately. Although our movie plan usually goes like: we go to the theater as soon as Will is fed, walk up, see what comes on in the next 15 min (on in the last minute). Choose the better of the evils (that night we chose between a few horror flicks, at Christmas I might add!, Four Christmases in 20 min or 7 pounds starting right then. I liked the movie. I “got it” near the beginning, but the slightly intoxicated high school girls beside me were apparently having trouble.
