This milestone was a sad one for me.
We should have known after he learned to unzip his giraffe tent and literally jump in and out of his cousin’s pack-n-play that Schäfer’s crib would no longer contain him. And with one simple hike of the leg – he was out.
Let us stroll down memory lane.

Surely it was just a little while ago that our crib arrived from Ikea. Oh auspicious day! We had the bedding and crib padding made by a local tailor. Schäfer’s room had finally come together!

Schäfer at 4 months and one week sleeping so peacefully.

On evening, we went in to check on Schäfer only to receive the shock of our life: at six months he was pulling up! The next day we lowered the crib.

By 7 months, Schäfer would climb the padding after nap time.

By 10.5 months, Raffe was becoming a good friend.

At two years and almost two months, it was time to break the crib down to the big boy bed.

So far, Schäfer has done really well. Of course, he gets up and has to be encouraged to get back in bed. Occasionally, he requests to be “tucked in like a burrito”. The first night, he walked into our bedroom at 5am, but I picked him up and put him back in his bed and he went back to sleep until 6:30am.
So far, he has not rolled out of his bed (which is maybe 6 inches off the ground) but that is probably due to the tight burrito wrapping that Hubs has mastered. We did put some foam padding down just in case. I hope to go to the fabric market and get a fun cover made for the white duvet he’s sleeping under.
Can anyone tell me how to stop him from growing?

To Schafer: Oh Boy! you are in your big bed. You are growing so fast. I like to be rolled like a burrito, too. I also like to sleep with Grandmaw under her electric blanket. I am so glad you got your big bed. I Love You, Nanamaw.
Sandra, when Little Sister gets her big bed, leave the sides up, it looks like a girl’s daybed. mom
That’s a great bed! Awesome!!!!
Sandra, Could you take the skirt to the baby bed and convert it into a duvet cover? Is there enough material? I’d like to see his room stay the same stripes. Nanamaw
Shorel & Sandra,
Reminds me just how fast the time goes with these little ones.
