Rainy Day #4

Yesterday, Schäfer asked me where Papa was. I replied, “Papa is in class.” Well, this got Schäfer really excited. He asked if he could go to class with Papa. “Errr…advanced Chinese reading class??? Maybe not.” Then, Schäfer kept going on and on about school and how he wanted to go see friends at school where he could go swimming and eat snacks!

Welcome to our fourth consecutive day of rain!

It’s cold 43 degrees outside.

So mostly, we’ve been indoors: dancing, reading, painting, painting, and more painting.

Today, I set up a little “art gallery” in Schäfer’s room so he could display his latest masterpieces. At the rate he’s whipping them out, I’d say Rembrandt should be nervous.

The other big news from today is that Hubs agreed that we could remove the wallpaper in Schäfer’s room. This news delights me still. We’ve talked about it before, but have never made a final decision since it will take a lot of effort. Afterall, it is wallpaper glued directly on concrete, but at least I don’t have to worry about mold growing in it.

This evening, Hubs took Schäfer to buy supper while I stayed back and cleaned my part of the office. While out, I asked Hubs to pick up some large art paper because I wanted to invite some of Schäfer’s friends over for a painting play date tomorrow.

When the guys came home, Schäfer was just beside himself talking about painting. He was so excited I couldn’t understand what he was saying. Hubs explained that he told Schäfer his friends were coming over and apparently this sent Schäfer into orbit. He’s so excited.

I felt a little bad for Hubs telling Schäfer because I hadn’t sent out the text message to invite everyone, but alas everyone was free and it’ll probably still be raining. This evening, I baked soft ginger cookies for tomorrow’s snack – using Hubs first batch of homemade butter! Mmmm!

Don’t you love all their paintings? Caden is a paper fanatic! He paints, colors, writes, staples, tapes and carries it around with him. Butter? Are you buying raw milk? Have you tried your cheese kit yet? I would love to know the results. I keep reading about it in Joy of Cooking, but haven’t bought or rather searched for the ingredients online.

    • No we have not found raw milk – yet. Hubs made the first batch with shelf milk because that is all we can get here. No, we have not tried our cheese kit because we’re still pretty slammed just getting through each day. Once we settle into our rhythm, I’m sure we’ll make cheese. We’re both excited to give it a try though.
