This week, I was craving chocolate pudding. Hubs was in the mood to have our own little Quick Fire Challenge. We tested the Nanamaw’s tried and true recipe against How to Cook Everything‘s gourmet version. I’m using the word gourmet loosely since it required vanilla beans.
After a serious taste testing, Hubs and I were unanimous. The Nanamaw’s pudding is the best.
I now refer to that other cookbook as “How To Cook Everything Except Chocolate Pudding”.
Without further ado:
INGREDIENTS
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
6 tablespoons chocolate baking powder
2 eggs
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons butter or margarine (I sometimes skip this)
DIRECTIONS
1. Combine sugar, flour, chocolate, eggs and milk before adding the heat. (Nanamaw recommends a double boiler. We found a wok works just fine.)
2. Add heat and STIR. When the pudding thickens add vanilla and butter. Keep stirring until it reaches that perfectly thick pudding consistency.
3. Take off heat. Makes 2 1/2 -3 cups.

What makes chocolate “baking chocolate”? I have everything but that – hmm… looks good!
