Saturday//Sunday

Well, this week I found myself either too busy to post or avoiding the computer so I could do some reading. I did pop in every could of days and jot down some highlights that were lingering in my mind.

On Saturday, I wrote out the entire week with photos. It was an interesting process. I suppose for the 2.5 readers of this blog (the .5 being Koko the canine) it’s not very convenient, but it was a way to take a break and still log our memories.

We found ourselves enjoying another rainy Saturday. I think we’ve had rain on Saturday for the past 5 weeks.

This morning, we had Schäfer color on a print of Chinese art. It was interesting to see him look at the art and then create his own work. Here he’s explaining the picture to Mama bear, Baby bear, and Panda.

He’s taking another look at Chinese art. I love, love, love exposing him to paintings!

I bought this puzzle on Monday when I popped in the wooden toy shop. You match the occupation to the person. It had been scattered on Schäfer’s table, but this morning I noticed that Schäfer had finished it perfectly! Now he can do the puzzle pretty fast – if he doesn’t get distracted! I think this is one of those Made in China, but stayed in China items because of a microscopic nick. Fine by me!

Since Hubs went to the dairy early this morning, there was a lot going on in our kitchen: milk pasteurizing on the burner, yogurt cooking in the crock-pot, etc. It was Hubs who suggested we go out for lunch. Schäfer was delighted to eat “sushi” at our local Korean restaurant.

Saturday was one of those days where we stayed home because of the heavy rain, but it was still really busy.  Eleven pm came before we knew it.

It rained all night.

On Sunday, we had another dark, rainy day.  I noticed new growths with our flowers and herbs. We have enough Basil for a small country…Iceland comes to mind. I seriously want to only order one seed of Basil next year. Our rosemary and mint have yet to make an appearance. I still have hope.

When Hubs called home this morning, he took the computer over to the window to show Grandma Huckleberry our herb garden. I love that we can now see each other when we call!

Schäfer was particularly trying this morning. It’s amazing to me what a pure joy he is at one moment and then 30 seconds later he is pushing the limits and then 55 seconds after that he’s back to his pure joy state.

We went to a restaurant for lunch that was literally called “Chinese Restaurant.” I regretted not bringing my camera. The dishes were beautifully presented. I wish I could overnight you some of this food. It’s incredible.

And speaking of not bringing my camera, I noticed on Monday (the day after Easter) that I consciously decided to go out without my camera.

Then, this afternoon, in our rush to get the party moving out the door, I forgot my camera. By the time I realized it,  I was too lazy to tromp up to the 5th floor to grab it.

I’m trying to figure out if I’m in a creative slump…or if it’s my scratchy throat/runny nose combo…or a reaction to all the rain…

I’m thinking it’s not a creative slump because I’m getting excited about a couple of photo projects I’m organizing.

But first we celebrated Easter.

And tomorrow we are on our way to Beijing for adoption paperwork.

Want to know what else I’m excited about?

Here’s the Spring Cleaning Party schedule:

  • Monday, May 4 – a clean sweep
  • Tuesday, May 5 – the living room, part one
  • Wednesday, May 6 – the living room, part two
  • Thursday, May 7 – the kitchen, part one
  • Friday, May 8 – the kitchen, part two
  • Monday, May 11 – the bathrooms
  • Tuesday, May 12 – the kids’ rooms, part one
  • Wednesday, May 13 – the kids’ rooms, part two (office?)
  • Thursday, May 14 – the master bedroom
  • Friday, May 15 – the front entry

How much do I love spring cleaning that’s already organized and allows for rest on Saturday and Sunday?

Given: we only live in 1200 square feet so I don’t really need two days for the living room, but I’m motivated to simplify.

Truth: there’s a craft closet that is suffering from complete neglect.
