The Adventures of Hubs Part 2

One Saturday I woke up…lo and behold it wasn’t raining. Bike ride!

This particular Saturday the bike club took off to WenFoShan. At the bottom of the mountain, the club leader signaled for us to have an impromptu race to the top. Ready, set, go!

I made it to the top in 23 minutes – apparently an Yichang record. Xiao Wang was just 30 seconds after me. Fun little race!

Once everyone else made it to the tunnel, we continued up the mountain for another three kilometers until we reached the tea plantations.

While lunch was being prepared, I went off to chat with some of the tea pickers.

They only pick the light green leaves which have most recently sprouted.

Just add hot water to this basked and voilà! Nothing. First, the leaves must be processed.

The leaves are spread on the floor to dry a bit.

Then, they are “rubbed” in this machine.

Finally, after being “tumble dried” in the machine on the right, they are bagged and ready to drink.

I bought a half-pound bag for RMB20. ($2.94) It tastes incredible!

Here’s some of my chat with the tea pickers:
