At any moment on Chinese television, you will find some rendition of the Chinese classic, Journey to the West which is primarily about the adventures of a Buddhist monk plus companions traveling to India to find enlightenment. Most westerners know the story for the character known as the Monkey King.
You might liken the Monkey King as a Chinese version of the Norse god, Loki. If that doesn’t help, well…the Monkey King is a shape shifting monkey with a metal staff and a penchant for causing mischief.
