We’ve been thinking of printing The Initial Conversation T-shirt for Schäfer to wear when we go traveling. Of course, we’re always happy to meet new people, but having the exact same conversation over and over can be tiring.
It would cover the following subjects:
1. I am 2 years and 9 months old.
2. I can speak Chinese.
3. I am American.
4. Yes, I live in China.
5. Hubei, Yichang.
6. Yes, I go to Chinese preschool.
7. Thank you for saying I’m cute.
8. OK. Let’s take a photo.
I hope we can get all of this on a 2T.

On the back in Chinese characters with a fine point sharpee…but then, why were we given the gift of conversation? and extroverted Schafer could learn this mantra and meet lots of new folks…nanamaw
Yes, he can definitely answer all of these questions!
I have some friends who live in Taiwan and really did make one of these t-shirts for their little girl. Although hers also said, “Please ask before touching me or picking me up.”
Adding the touching or picking up is a good idea. We always wore Schäfer in the Ergo when he was small. Now, he can just run away if they try to reach for him. He generally just stands there and gives a hearty “BU YAO!”
Truly addictive those no bakes!!
great idea! are you taking orders?
What if you did I can speak Chinese and it was written in Chinese? Then they would start talking to him in Chinese. They would have conversations with Schafer.
we have made two of these for Eliana (vip insisted she have one the next size up once the first one was too small). it was too funny to hear the people all around us reading her shirt as she was playing or we were just buying groceries. we also added a sentence to assure them she was warm enough and made a joke that every picture would be 10 cents! it was some fun conversations for sure!
Great tip! We should totally add a “Wo bu leng” line & I completely agree that we should be charging for photos. With the rate that my little guy is eating, I’m not sure how we’ll be able to feed him through his teenage years. Hugs.
