Our toddler phase for October could be best summed up in one word: WHY?

Schäfer loves to wear his lion costume.

We were still wearing t-shirts and enjoying ice cream cones for most of October.

Right now, Schäfer likes to have Raffe and Yertle the Turtle while he reads books.

He loves to play with his trains.

This month, I had two new sheet sets made for his bed. The zoo-pendus fabric came from Aunt Joy. She donated enough fabric to make a bed sheet and still have enough for our 100 blessings quilt. I selected the Snoopy fabric at our local fabric shop because it had no Chinglish on it.

Yuan Yue’s Mom bought both the boys a chocolate tánghúlú.

The chocolate tánghúlú tastes a little on the medicinal side.

We read Thomas the Train books at the local bookstore.

For October, Tot School has been more off than on. I’ve slowed down a little bit to allow for more reading. I hope to find a better rhythm in November.

We enjoyed some mighty fine weather in October. We made two trips to the island.

“Look! My shadow!”

Chasing his shadow.

During bath time, Schäfer loves to put bubbles on his face and “shave”. Schäfer wears his Thomas towel every night after bath. He is currently fascinated with a Lego catalog we picked up at Toys R Us in Hong Kong.  I thought it would help pass some time on the train ride home. Little did I know…

Here’s Schäfer one morning after preschool drinking whey and reading the Lego catalog.

Today, after a long, hard rain, we finally felt some cooler weather. Schäfer got these Handy Manny pj’s for Christmas last year. He liked seeing the tools on his belly. Unfortunately, they are just too hot for him and he’s taken them off every night we’ve put them on him. Maybe in December…

Today, we make cookies with Rong Rong.

Schäfer Speak

He: My train fell!
Me: That’s OK! You’re an engineer!
He: I’m not! I’m a ge ge. (big brother)

Schäfer hands me his empty milk glass and says, “See! You can’t see the milk. It’s in my tummy.”

Me: If you drink the bathwater, you’ll get sick.
He: Then, I can go to the doctor and ride in an ambulance.

“Wombats can see at night!”

Schäfer has also started to mention things he would like to happen:
“Tomorrow we’re going to go on a cable car ride!”
“Oh! Oh! A text from Rong Rong! He wants me to come to his house and play!”
