Hubs went to the dairy early this morning. I’m amazed at how much my man can get done in one day. He is productive.
Mid – morning we had the bike club #1 over for a party. (Hubs rides with three bike clubs.) What a joy it was to have these men in our home. They were our first big Christmas party in 2005. We invited 17 or so and I think 40 showed up. Ever since then, they’ve scaled it back a little.
During our first 2005 party, the bike club gave us this lovely ceramic dolphin/crab duo.We’ve kept it all these years and pull it out every Christmas as the centerpiece for the snack table. (Hubs has been known to place Ceramic Dolphin under the Christmas tree and tuck a present inside.)
I didn’t get cookies baked for this morning’s party because rearranging the furniture (I moved one overstuffed chair and table to the bedroom) and getting the snacks set out took longer than expected.
All the same, this morning’s party was just perfect.
Schäfer loves the Ye Ye’s.
He’s happy to perform and if there’s one thing the entire Chinese population likes – it is a performance. Schäfer sang two songs and quoted a rhyme. He would have been happy to do more – anything for the Ye Ye’s!
Hubs gets so passionate when he’s speaking.
What can I say about the bike club parties? Everyone leaves in such style.
Schäfer was so upset when the party ended. He kept saying, “Where did the Ye Ye’s go?”
This afternoon, we got the dough ready for tonight’s party. Yes, it’s a two party Saturday. Festive, aren’t we?
Confession: because Hubs ran to the dairy this morning our fridge is all stocked with milk. I have the dough sitting on the outside ledge. It’s 46 degrees outside. I think that qualifies as “chill the dough before rolling”.
Before party #2, we made the Jesse Tree ornament and added a sticker to the birthday cake.
Then the guys settled down for a very special treat: A Charlie Brown Christmas.
What a Christmas classic!
This evening went a little different than expected. We invited a bunch of shop owners that we didn’t know extremely well, but wanted to invite to our home. One person called to cancel. The others came an hour and a half late. I know all cultures are different, but we’ve never had people show up late before. Early, yes. Always early! Late – never.
I now realize that we probably arranged for the party to start too early. Since these are all shop owners, it would make sense that they would need to come after closing down their shops. Next time, we will plan on starting late!
So the party started at Schäfer’s bedtime. It’s now 10:20pm and he’s still awake. I have no idea how tomorrow’s neighborhood party will go. Schäfer might be a total grouch or he’ll go on adrenaline and crash for a long afternoon nap. I’m hoping for the latter.
The adoption has constantly been on my mind. I went back to the adoption forum this afternoon to see if there has been any news. I decided to record all the families who have been matched to see if there is any consistency.

Of course, more referrals could be coming out and people aren’t posting on the forum which I totally understand. Why get on the computer when you have a baby’s photo to look at?
And so we wait. We could possibly be in the matching room (a while back we heard that we were, but then we learned that we weren’t) so now maybe we are?
At this point, we’re waiting for our phone to ring to say that a referral has been mailed to us.
