Decorations

When we walked up to the Disneyland entrance Schäfer said, “Where’s the Halloween?” Thank goodness all those “hot steam birds” (ghosts) have gone and the Year of the Tiger is here.

Tiger striped Mickey images were all over the park.

These festive lanterns look a little like durian.

The Mouse’s House is awfully big.

Main Street was decorated with firecrackers and red envelopes hanging in the trees.

This character means “blessing”.

Especially unique was how they took the character for blessing and turned it upside down and into a Mickey. The upside down character represents “the blessing has arrived.”

The gift shops were all decked out for the holiday.

I enjoyed seeing all the Chinese New Year gifts like these Mickey and Minnie dolls in traditional Chinese dress.
Year of the Tiger Festivities
There were three Year of the Tiger celebrations. The first one we saw was “Disney’s Jumping Jam”.

Mickey came out with drumsticks and wearing a stylish, yet trendy tiger-striped sash.

Tigger came with his bounce and a lightweight vest.

During the drum session, Tigger jumped on top of a large drum. Surrounding the drum circle, there were all types of traditional Chinese acrobatics.
The next celebration we saw was the Lion Dance in Adventureland. I don’t have any photos because Sianna didn’t like being so close to the drums. Hubs took about 10 minutes worth of video and proclaimed it to be “the best lion dance” he’d ever seen. (Coming soon via video.)
Our last Year of the Tiger festivity was “Celebration in the Street” which was a beautiful parade.

Then there was the mouse himself, pounding out New Year’s blessings to all the bystanders.
Now is that a fun day or what?!

Loved seeing the pictures of your day–wish we could have joined you for the day!!!
Loved the photos of the Chinese New Year! We are studying China for February and found your blog on my Boybarians site – what timing!
