Happy 1st Birthday Sianna!

On the morning of the kids’ birthdays, I like to get a photo of them while they’re still in the crib. Sianna doesn’t like to be in her crib after she wakes up so I took her early morning photos on our bed.

Happy birthday baby girl!

For breakfast, we started the celebration with blueberry pancakes.

It’s hard to believe that just 2 days ago Sianna started feeding herself.  She’s a pro!

Yummy birthday breakfast!

Schäfer was so excited it was Sianna’s birthday! (He’s eating jam on his pancake. He also likes syrup.)

After we got Schäfer to preschool, we went out in the neighborhood to take Sianna’s portrait. I wanted to take Sianna to a studio, but I haven’t had time to get downtown to find a studio, negotiate the type of pictures we like (no crazy costumes or backdrops set in Venice) and of course to settle on the price. So… photos outside it was…

It’s probably a good thing that we didn’t go all the way downtown. Sianna wasn’t in a very good mood.

But she was so happy with a flower.

Of course, it didn’t take long before…

Sianna wanted to taste the flower. After all, putting food or any object into her mouth is her new skill.

“Sianna, we don’t eat flowers.” says Mommy.

“Sianna, we don’t eat flowers.” says Mommy again.

“Humph.” says Sianna.

Sianna still loves to clap non-stop.

She has two teeth.

Sianna goes to bed at 7:30pm. For the most part, she sleeps through the night. If she wakes, she is generally able to go back to sleep – although she can be fussy during her her return trip to dreamland.

She sleeps in the pack-n-play in our bedroom off the side of our bed. She takes one nap from 12:30- 3:00pm. (I think she needs a solid 3 hours, but normally her brother innocently wakes her up with his loud play.)

On 05.05 we switched Sianna to fresh farm milk without any problems.

On 05.07 we transitioned Sianna to the sippy cup without any problems. She loves milk so much. She didn’t care that the tip of her soft sippy cup was different than a bottle. She wanted milk! I still hold her and manage the sippy cup so there’s lots of time for eye contact and snuggle. She drinks 5 8oz. bottles a day at: 6am, 10am, 12:30pm, 4pm, and 7:30pm.

On 05.11 we moved Sianna completely to solids. Yeah, no more baby food! She never liked the pureed stuff anyway.

At this point in the photo shoot, Sianna had a bit of a meltdown. How much do I love her pointed pinkie?

Love you baby girl.

After getting all her emotions out, she was one happy little girl. This is my favorite photo from the morning.

Sianna currently wears clothing size 6-9 month and a Mamy Poko diaper size M. In fact, she’s been in a size M since January! Those diapers must have been really loose back then!

She is becoming more and more active. She loves to discover her environment – including this bench.

She loves to babble and had been saying “Deh! Deh!” a lot.

She loves to be tossed in the air.

What does she like more than being tossed?

She loves her Papa.

After the photo shoot, we picked up Schäfer from preschool. While I got lunch on the table, Schäfer colored Sianna’s birthday sign. He said he made her “a map”.

After nap time, we had a little birthday party. We thought about inviting friends over, but the truth is that Sianna just doesn’t like people… yet. (She’s very “stranger aware”.) When we have a lot of people in the house (5 or more) she gets frantic and can be hard to settle down. Since this is Sianna’s birthday, we decided to do the party in a way that she would most enjoy – just us. at home. on a rainy Friday evening.

Sianna looks so tiny wrapped around Hubs waist.

Schäfer insisted on wearing his Thomas overalls to Sianna’s birthday party. I thought it was so sweet that he wanted to get dressed up for the party. He also made sure Raffe was at the party.

For Sianna’s first birthday, we gave her the book “Every Year On Your Birthday” by Rose A. Lewis and a baby doll in red silk clothes.

Happy 1st birthday Sianna!

Of course, the candle was more interesting than our singing! Schäfer blew out her candle for her. He could hardly contain himself during the birthday song.

For Sianna’s first cake, we had lemon cream cupcakes.

Do you know what she loves more than cake?

Her big brother.

For her birthday, Sianna received her first baby doll. Thank you so much Ryan, Meredith and Audry for this beautiful Corolle Calin Yang doll! She loves it!

Sianna also received a blanket from Nanamaw, a book and doll from Mommy and Papa, and a dress from Bruce and Erin.
Thank you so much Bruce and Erin for the beautiful dress. She’ll wear it this summer in Hawaii!

Thank you Nanamaw for the hand stitched blanket.

Sianna received two cards for her birthday. One was from the Nanamaw and the other from her Aunt Gloria.

Even though, Nanamaw and Aunt Gloria live in completely different states, they both sent the same card!

Here’s a photo of the birthday sign that Schäfer made. I’d say that’s a pretty good “map”! The large green circle is train tracks – of course!

I can’t believe that we have the privilege of celebrating Sianna’s birthday with her. What an incredible four months we’ve had together!

To top it all off: Sianna started crawling today! She crawled four steps, then sat down. It was like she wanted to crawl, but she couldn’t decide if she wanted to go somewhere. So she just moved a little bit before taking a rest.

Crawling/getting into everything/discovering is my favorite baby phase.

And we’re off!
