Paper Cutting in RuiChang

06.11.10

Paper cutting in China originated during the 6th century AD primarily as an art form used by females to display their eligibility for marriage. Over the years, the pressure to produce the most intricate paper cuts has subsided. These days, it is a beautiful art form displaying the artists (male of female) skills with scissors, knives, and red paper.

RuiChang, a small city about a half-hour away, is famous for paper cutting.

The kids and I had a chance to accompany some visiting students on a tour of these shops.

He worked on counting all the people he could find.

Of course, he made a new friend.

After lunch, everyone got to try their hand at paper cutting.
