Used Furniture: Before and After

It’s been almost a year since we ventured down to Used Furniture Market in search of a few pieces of furniture. Here’s a few before and after pictures.

A month after we moved in, our entry space looked like this. In search of an affordable solution, we went back to Used Furniture Alley. Since the nearest Ikea was a $60 round-trip excursion, we decided to try to buy local as much as possible.

We bought this “closet” for 180rmb ($27.46).

Before: our shoes. coats, bags and outdoor toys were tossed in a corner.

After: everything is contained in the closet.

Thank you Hubs for painting all of our used furniture! (At the time, I was pregnant.)

When we first bought the closet, we slipped our shoe rack inside.

The rack is still working just fine.

This closet holds everything: soccer ball, water guns, bike helmets, bug bans, shopping bags, frisbee, all shoes, all jackets and coats, rain gear, badminton set, Ergo, sling, wiffle ball set, tissues, umbrellas, sun screen, mosquito repellant, hats, gloves, scarfs, sidewalk chalk, bubble wand, etc.

We use this closet multiple times a day. I’m so thankful to have all of our outdoor items in one place.

Next, I was in search of something to put our water cooler on.

Before: for 20rmb ($3.05), we thought this old bedside table would work.

After: love it.

Can you believe this table was only $3? It’s solid wood!

I love a little detail.

2011-03-12@15-49-09
I store my party supplies inside.

I also loved the pull out drawer. Just 20rmb!

I hope to add tea and coffee packets, but haven’t done that yet.

Our final item was something to place my microwave and oven on so I could save on counter space.

2010-04-28@11-01-41
Before: we found this solid wood hutch for 150rmb ($22.88).

2011-03-12@15-48-44
After: it works perfectly!

This hutch was in the very back of a tiny shop. The owner literally had to move some furniture so we could walk back and check it out. Used Furniture Alley is a great place, if you’re in the mood to dig.

I love details.

I use the cabinet to store cheese making and baking supplies.

2011-03-12@15-51-41
I use the top for our oven, microwave and cookbooks.

After: Hubs added a board to create a shelf.

The water cooler and hutch are in a corner of the dining room that was not being used.

2011-03-12@16-18-25
There’s still plenty of space to get around.

We were very pleased with our Used Furniture Alley finds. Unless I need something specific, I try not to go back. That place is addicting!

It all looks so good! I have only purchased one piece of used furniture here so far! I got a cabinet for homeschool books. Other furniture we either purchased long ago, or we have inherited. I love leftovers! 🙂
