  • Tuesday, May 5 – the living room, part one
  • Wednesday, May 6 – the living room, part two
  • Thursday, May 7 – the kitchen, part one
  • Friday, May 8 – the kitchen, part two
  • Monday, May 11 – the bathrooms
  • Tuesday, May 12 – the kids’ rooms, part one
  • Wednesday, May 13 – the kids’ rooms, part two (office?)
  • Thursday, May 14 – the master bedroom
  • Friday, May 15 – the front entry

So, I’ve been spring cleaning.

But according to the schedule I’m behind.

Life happened.

But without the schedule I wouldn’t be anywhere at all.

The schedule helps me not feel overwhelmed. Normally I’d scrub everything down, but when it came down to the digging through, decluttering and organizing part I’d be tired from all the cleaning so I’d just settle for sanitized.

It provides some accountability. I do want to share the goals I’ve set and the reality of seeing them come through.

Hubs appreciates a well organized space. It’s good when the C.E.O. appreciates the  C.O.O.

CLEAN SWEEP

The goal is to quickly sweep through your home, throw away trash, and toss items you no longer need or want into a box for later. And that’s basically it – a project that should only take about two hours max (more or less, depending on the size of your home). – Simple Mom – Day 1

THE LIVING ROOM
After day one’s clean sweep, the living room was an easy place to start. I cleaned out the inside of the sofa’s, gave some extra attention to the window’s, mopped under the furniture and eventually sorted our DVD’s.

This was the final result. I say “was” because today it rained so the toys are back on the table. That’s life.

The most time consuming place for me was the front entry. Normally, I would hide most of the stuff here, but my motivation this time around was to simplify and only leave out exactly what we use.

Even though this space is still more cluttered than what I’d like – I’d love for nothing to be here – everything that remains is what we use on a daily basis: The Mommy Bag, cloth grocery bags, umbrellas, outside toys, etc.

I was so energized by how clean and organized the living room was, I asked Hubs to give Schäfer his evening bath so I could finish the task.

I returned a Hello Kitty that belonged to a neighbor and donated some shoes. In fact, I got rid of my broken flip-flops. Sigh.

I bought these shoes at Fred’s Dollar Store for 69 cents in 10th grade because I needed shower shoes for camp. Seventeen years later, they finally broke.

Hubs was so happy I finally got rid of them. It really bothered him when I walked around the house in a broken flip-flop.

On to the kitchen…

  • Unfortunately, most of my house looks like a “before”! (except my guest bedrooms)

As for your flip-flops, I think you got your 69 cents worth!!!!
