Goodnight Moon

Back when I first started reading to Schäfer, I started singing books to him. I’m not sure why. It was probably a need for variety after reading something for the 10 dozenth time. Regardless, I had fun playing with various genres from Jazz to Rap and anything in between.

Goodnight Moon sounded like a country song to me. After humming a few ditties, I came up with a tune. Sandra joined in.

With Sianna, I kept the tradition of singing Goodnight Moon. She has heard the song before. When we mailed a care package to the orphanage, we included a cassette of us talking and singing to her. One of the first songs we sang was Goodnight Moon.

These days, if you ask Sianna to get a book, she’ll grab Goodnight Moon.

Schäfer even started joining me in singing the tune, having heard it so many times himself. We’re a regular family Von Trapp.

Here’s Sandra and me singing Goodnight Moon:

Love it. I’ve never thought of GNM sounding like a country song…but it totally does! 🙂 I might just sing it tonight!

this is one of my favorite posts! for several reasons! 1) when you guys blessed us by joining our budding family as we met sterling i had every intention of videoing this awesome (only heard about) tradition 2) love seeing 2 of your kiddos enjoying their normal lives 3) love hearing your voices 4) because it’s such a hit sterling keeps asking to see/hear it over & over again. thanks for blessing us… and for erasing my guilt for not following through with my good intentions a year and a half ago! love you all sk5!!!

  • I wish you could have seen the crowd looking over my shoulder when I hit the play button. A couple of preschoolers joined by the older crew, mesmerized by country Goodnight Moon. Timeless, absolutely! “P’ay it ‘gain”, was the cry. Think you need to take this show on the road. 🙂

Oh, my goodness. I loved this so much!! And my boys did, too – I also had to play it “Again! Again!” for them. It was so fun to sing with you. 🙂

    You guys rock.
