1st birthday party reality check

Last week, I got an e-mail from babycenter.com that included a survey asking how much I spent for Selah’s 1st birthday party.

Well, let’s see.
The clothes: hand-me-down
The food: $15
The cake: homemade
The gifts: $7
Invites: word of mouth
Party favors: $5 (homemade cookies)
total: $27 give or take

23% spent more than $500!

What is even more surprising is that only 9% of 97,838 people spent less than $50.

Just to keep things in perspective, if we lived in the states, I probably would have had more guests (family!) which meant I would need more food and party favors.

And I probably would have mailed a cute invitation.

And purchased matching cups, plates and napkins.

And bought a pretty dress for Selah.

And a matching dress for Sianna.

And a color coordinated shirt for Schäfer.

And, for sure, Selah’s 1st birthday gifts would have been better than squeaky bath toys and a Hello Kitty plate set.

And all of that shopping meant I wouldn’t have time to bake a cake so I would have ordered one from a bakery. (Hubs: Fat chance. I’d be baking it myself while you’re sleeping!)

Whew.

Good thing I live in China.
