This spring, Bruce & Erin welcomed baby Liana into their family! Despite their busy days and late nights with a newborn, Erin sent one of her famous “zip lock bag of gifts” when Kristen and I met up in late February.

This time, Erin sent something I haven’t had for 3 years… new clothes!

Thank you for this basic green v-neck. I didn’t have one.

Thank you for this purple jacket. It is a nice alternative to my orange polartec.

Recently Erin asked a memory keeping question…

Yes, I write posts when they are fresh on my mind. I have a serious case of Mommy brain (that’s a debilitating syndrome where I gave my children my brain cells while they were in utero). So, if I have a post in mind then I write it out and put it in the drafts folder. Sometimes I’ll edit it and publish soon. Other times, I’ll wait until photos are edited.

Photos! Well, the photos around here can get overwhelming. Having a blog has put me into a rhythm of getting the photos off the camera, into the computer, edited and uploaded. But I am NEVER up to date. It’s true. I rarely blog my day to day activities in live time.

During this season with young children, and now looking into my next season of homeschooling, I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to keep up with it all. I don’t try to. To blog each and every day would stress me out. Unless the earth starts a different rotation on its axis, I will simply never have time to blog about each day.

That said, what I am recording here is more than if I didn’t have a blog. I like to journal, but that doesn’t incorporate photos. I like to take photos, but sometimes words complete the story.

Right now, I’m way behind. I have 1,634 photos waiting to be edited. Generally, when I take the photos off the camera, I have 300-700 photos. I usually edit those down to 100 -250 photos. I take a lot of photos of the same moment knowing that I’ll edit them on the computer.

My only suggestion is that if you want to start a blog, think about making it private. When we started our blog in 2004, I didn’t know anyone else who wrote a blog or even read a blog. We did this as a way to keep in touch with our family.

Now that my children are older, I am starting to consider how much information about them is available on the web. With the tween years not too far away, I wonder if my kids will be mad that their friends can easily read about their potty training or the time they lost their lovey.

For my kids, some privacy has been taken from them.

Hubs and I have talked in detail about how to rectify this situation. Everything is on the table right now – including shutting ye old blog down and picking up writing in a more private space. Other options are to keep this space and delete old posts or mark them private – but we’re still trying to figure out how to mark photos private and view them in private posts.

All of this to say, that if someone wants to keep in touch with you, they will surely type in an 8 letter password.

So yes, do whatever you can to write down these moments. Memories fade as they are replaced with new ones.
