His Favorite Things 2012

Every fall, I give our Apple Peeler some serious attention. If I’m cravin’ an apple crisp, this is the shortest route to cinnamon apples with an oatmeal topping getting into my belly.

If you get tired of sweat in your eyes, a Sweat Gutr Headband is the solution. (Sweat is not as much of a problem now that we’re in the mountains of Dali.)

A Camelbak is great for vacations or anytime you need hydration. It’s basically a portable water fountain.

On a cold winter’s day, I rely on my Oregon Scientific Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer so I know just how many layers to put on before heading out the door. I also referrer to it when I inform Sandra on how fewer layers the kids need.

Honestly, a Kindle is all you need – unless you live near a library. We don’t.

We love our Apple MacBook Pro 13.3-Inch Laptop. Too much screen is a waste of weight.

Skinny guys like me need layering. Thermasilk helps with that.

During the winter months, I live in my Fleece lined Insulated Jeans which I think we bought at Walmart for $20. Worth every penny. Sandra found a fleece lined shirt at the JC Penny outlet. Welcome to my winter uniform.

A bike is a good thing. Very good.

My Apple iPhone is used daily for looking up Chinese words and Instagramming pictures of pomelo sellers. Actually, my iPhone is an old 3Gs, so you 5 upgraders let me know if you have a 4S sitting in your sock drawer. 🙂

Nothing says love like a block of homemade cheese. This Supreme Cheese Making Kit would be a great way to start off an adventure in cheese making.

A Leatherman is on my belt at all times because you’d be surprised at what needs fixin’ during the day.

Proraso Eucalyptus Shaving Soap. Seriously, men, get yourself a good soap and shaving brush. James Bond uses them. ‘Nuf said.

And toss the expensive Gillette plastic razors. You’ll save money and get a closer shave with a good double-edge blade. I bought my Merkur “Futur” Safety Razor off ebay.

These Feather Hi-Stainless Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades are extremely sharp. Use with respect.

We’ve borrowed a friend’s Belgian Waffle Maker while they are in the states. By doing so we’ve learned that we prefer waffles over pancakes. Yum.

After one of our children was sick on and off for almost half of September, we decided to start juicing as a way to get more vitamins into our diet. We are slightly obsessed with our Hurom Slow Juicer. I’ve even trained Schäfer to get out of bed and start peeling oranges. Since we’ve been juicing, sick days have been significantly fewer. But know that I’m not one of those…interesting…folk who will juice anything not moving. “Pick it! Juice it!” It does make a mean V8 juice however.
